Choose a readable PDF
Use lecture notes, a course handout, or slides exported as a PDF. Try selecting a sentence in your PDF viewer: selectable text is a useful first check.

Build a study kit
After subscribing and opening your study desk, choose Upload, select the PDF, and generate your study kit. Exam Cat uses the extracted text to build the material.

Answer before you flip
Open Flashcards and try each question before revealing its answer. Use the notes to revisit a confusing idea, then try the quiz from the same study kit.
Which PDFs work?
The web uploader accepts files up to 20 MB and extracts up to 48,000 characters of source text per study kit. Start with one lecture or chapter. Split longer files into smaller sections so you can study a manageable topic at a time.
What about scans and diagrams?
Use a searchable, text-based PDF. Scanned pages and handwritten photos need readable text first; the web uploader does not perform OCR. It also does not interpret every diagram in a PDF. Add a written explanation of an important figure to your source material before generating a kit.
Make the cards worth answering
A useful card asks one clear question. Definitions, comparisons, and short applications each make different kinds of practice. Check generated cards against the source, especially symbols, units, and exceptions. AI can make mistakes, so use your course material as the reference.

Is the PDF-to-flashcards feature free?
AI study-kit generation in the Exam Cat web app requires a subscription. You can try the example on this page or use our manual flashcard maker without an account.
Can I upload a PowerPoint or Word file?
Export your presentation or document as a text-based PDF first. The web uploader accepts PDF, TXT, Markdown, CSV, and JSON files; it does not open PPTX or DOCX directly.
Will it turn my entire textbook into flashcards?
Very long files exceed the source limit. Start with the chapter or lecture you are studying, then make separate study kits for the remaining sections.
Do I get a quiz as well?
Yes. A generated study kit includes notes, flashcards, and multiple-choice practice, so you can switch between reviewing and testing the same material.
